Why Spring is the perfect time to update your business portraits.

Today is officially the first day of Spring and I for one am excited because I just love brand shoots during Spring!

Typical old London, the weather hasn't been the best recently. But Spring weather IS just around the corner. Last weekend I went for a lovely walk, the weather was beginning to pick up, it felt sunnier and warmer and I noticed that snowdrops, crocuses and daffodils had all started popping up and it really gave me a sense of optimism.

I can really feel Spring coming now so I thought this would be a great time to have a little chat about why Spring is a really great time for a brand shoot and why you should start planning for yours right now.

Although I shoot inside and outside all year round, I always get excited about the possibilities Spring brings for outside location options. First off it’s a bit of a warmer time and so you’re less likely to get cold during your shoot. You also don’t have to be all wrapped up in your winter clothes, which sometimes just isn't the look you’re going for in your brand photos.

As mentioned above, with Spring comes lovely flowers and greenery. And when it comes to photography, this means beautiful nature backgrounds. I especially love blossom backdrops but there are so many options during Spring and something to suit every business!

Once the clocks change later this month, hours for shooting are also more flexible as the sun is out longer. And even if we’re shooting inside, this means that there could still be some time to do some shots outside afterwards too! (Check out my 3 & 5 hour shoot options).

During Spring, sunrise and sunset are at less extreme times than Summer, so we don’t have to get up quite as early or stay up as late which can really be a bonus! In the Springtime we get a really lovely light early in the morning and late in the afternoons. You may have heard of Golden Hour which is just after sunrise and just before sunset, this is a gorgeous time to shoot for that glowy look.

If the day is overcast though, we can also shoot during the middle of the day because the sun won't be too strong. Actually, I love overcast Spring days for outside shoots because the clouds create a giant softbox in the sky which really softens shadows and is great for shooting portraits!

As a business that uses images in social content and marketing materials, it’s also key to have seasonal appropriate images so that you are relevant and up to date. So Spring is also a great time to get fresh images for the new season.

And if your business has anything to do with nature, or your work activities take place outside, you could actually really benefit particularly from outside images during Spring!

Now these are all great reasons why Spring is a good time to shoot outside, but if you’re wondering whether an outdoor shoot is for you, then here a few reasons why it could be:

  • If you don’t have a home or work space suitable for an indoor shoot, then shooting outside is one alternative option.

  • If you don’t have a budget to hire a location, shooting outside doesn’t cost you any extra.

  • Some people just prefer outside images and feel they capture their essence, brand or visual style a bit better than inside shoots.

  • My 1 hour portrait package is designed for outside locations.

  • My 3 & 5 hour brand shoot packages have time for some inside and outside images so you can even get the best of both if you want!

If any of these reasons resonate with you then Spring could be a great time to book your personal brand or portrait shoot. And if you are considering a Spring or even a Summer brand shoot, then I would encourage you to start planning and book ahead now. This will allow us to have enough time to plan together and get the best images for you and your business!

Feel free to get in touch to book a complimentary consultation so we can discuss which brand shoot package will suit you best for your Spring photo shoot.
