A brand shoot in London with best selling author, food writer & entrepreneur Dominique Woolf.
In the “Self Made Spotlight” today is Dominique Woolf.
Dominique is a food writer, entrepreneur, and now also a best selling author! Through her business The Woolf’s Kitchen she make sauces, pastes, chilli oils and nuts.
You might also recognise Dominique as the winner of Channel 4's ‘The Great Cookbook Challenge with Jamie Oliver’. And you can now buy her best selling cookbook ‘Dominique’s Kitchen’; which is full of easy Asian-inspired recipes - YUM!
I first met Dominique through her female entrepreneur network group in our local area. As a solo business owner, it can be lonely sometimes, so I’ve really enjoyed being part of Dominique’s community. Having like minded business owners to chat to, share advice and make friends with is really important. When I shared Dominique’s new brand images with the other women in the network group, they were really supportive and told us how much they loved the pictures! Which always feels great!
Dominique wanted to get some great new images to use for PR purposes and it was important to her that they came across as friendly, accessible, and simple yet aspirational. So for her shoot we decided to do a mix of shots showing her cooking, writing and working from home - although, we were actually kindly given access to her friends house, as she had SUCH a gorgeous kitchen!
“I’m really happy with the range and quality of photos. I have so many to choose from which is brilliant.”-Dominique Woolf
After the shoot I asked Dominique for some feedback and was really touched by her response
“In the past I’ve had photoshoots … [where] I hate the angle the photographer has shot me at … and I came away disappointed.” “ I’m quite particular about my angles and I think these captured me well. We also managed to capture the vibe I was after. Probably the best photoshoot I’ve had. So well done :)”
Since our shoot, as you can imagine Dominique has been busy promoting her new cook book so hasn’t had a chance to get much use out of her new images yet. However, she says
“once the initial book promotion is done … I’ll be sending [my new brand images] out to a whole range of places e.g. press/profile pieces/blog posts/podcasts etc [for my profile development]”.
I’m super excited to see where Dominique uses her new images and will be sure to make an updated blog post in a few months, so we can show you!
So far though, Dominique’s agency, YMU Literary, has been enjoying using a few of her new images to promote her. And Dominique’s favourite image has also been used for a podcast interview with @cookingthebookswithgillysmith
When I asked Dominique if she had any advice for someone who’s considering having a brand photoshoot, she said
“Do some research and find images and styles you like - create a mood board. Also come prepared with a good change of outfits and props. Being organised will help on the day! It also really helps having a location with good natural light”.
I also wanted to give a little shout out to Dominique’s friend, Jess. Who helped out with prepping food and cleaning up in between shots, which was really useful - thanks Jess! If you book a shoot that involves food, I would highly recommend bringing someone along who can lend an extra pair of hands! It really saves time and prevents us from getting all messy and sticky!
You can buy Dominique’s cook book ‘Dominique’s Kitchen’ at amazon here and it’s currently amazon’s number 1 seller!

But don’t just take it from me, see what Dominique has to say:
“I recently had a photoshoot with Lisa and I couldn't be happier with the result. The photos are brilliant - I love the lighting and the finish on them. They look natural yet glossy at the same time. They also fulfil the brief perfectly (I wanted fun, friendly and approachable) and somehow Lisa did this. We had so many to choose from. One of the best photoshoots I've ever had.” - Dominique Woolf
