As a London Personal Branding Photographer, I love to help my clients showcase their amazing businesses and attract their ideal audience. So as well as creating eye-catching personal brand images, I also write a blog post about each of my clients and show off some of their new images to the world. So with that said…
In the “Self Made Spotlight” today is Humanist Celebrant, Alex Collis.
Alex is a Humanist Celebrant. She writes one-of-a-kind, non-religious ceremonies to celebrate milestones and special occasions in people’s lives, including; the arrival of a new baby, adoptions, gender transitions, blended families, weddings, vow renewals, funerals, celebrations of life, and memorial services.
Alex wanted her new brand images to showcase her as an approachable, warm, and welcoming person who is also colourful, joyful, and unconventional. As well as promoting her business, she also wanted some images to celebrate turning 50!
So for her brand shoot, we spent a few hours shooting in a vibrant, colourful warehouse which I had scouted for Alex. We also spent some time shooting around Hackney Wick to get some fun, seasonal outside backdrops too.

Since our shoot, Alex has been using her new images for a range of content on Instagram. She’s also made good use of them to update her website. Alex says
“What [the images have] really captured is my love of colour and my unconventional approach to my work as a celebrant. I’ve had lots of comments on how striking they are, how approachable, warm and different they make me look.”
Alex’s brand shoot package also included some b-roll video clips, which she has been using to create engaging reels on Instagram. Alex says
“I’ve used the footage a lot in this way, and they’ve been really successful posts in terms of reach and engagement.”
When I asked Alex if she had any advice for someone who’s considering having a brand photoshoot, she said
“Honestly? Go for it, even if - like me - you don’t always like how you look or don’t feel confident in front of the camera. You won’t like all the images - but you WILL find plenty that you love. And you’ll be surprised by which ones! Keep your mind open and look on it as a bit of an adventure.”
Alex is looking forward to launching her updated website soon, which will include new images, tips and creative inspo for arranging funerals, weddings and namings. And upcoming events incl. funeral planning parties, to encourage us to talk more about death, dying and our wishes.
